The Frozen Tundra of Ben Roa Field Brings The First Ice Bowl for HBL

With 3 games in a row on the lower field at Ben Roa Park being extremely muddy, It was decided that Game 15 would be played on one of the upper fields.  Even though the upper field was icy, it wasn't as bad as playing on the lower field that had 6 inch deep divots that had been filled with water and frozen over. 

Blue won the toss, but was was unable to get anything going as they turned the ball over to Red as 4 straight plays couldn't produce a first down.  Even though Red started 10 yards from the endzone, they couldn't put the ball in, as they turned the ball back over to Blue just 1 yard shy of a Touchdown.

Eric calmed his team down and began to move Blue slowly down the field starting at his own one.   Methodically dinking and dunking down the field, Eric ended the drive with a 7 yard TD pass to Cesar.  &-0

Red took over with Steve at the helm and after two quick 30 yard passed to Manny & Rich, he finished this quick drive with a 8 yrd td to Rich, tying the score at 7.

Getting the ball back, Blue mounted a drive.  However, it ended with an Interception by Macky.  Red wasted no time and Macky finished the drive he started with an interception by catching a 10 yard pass from Steve putting Red up by 7. 7-14.

Eric looked to strike back quick.  And after a 40 yard pass to one of the new guys, Carlos, got Blue deep into Red territory, Eric only took a couple mor plays before he hit Cesar for a 10 yrd TD pass.  Tying the game back up at 14 all.

1 play later, Cesar intercepted a pass from Steve and ran it in for a touchdown.  And just like that Blue was back up by 7 points. 21-14

Red was only able to drive the ball to midfield before their drive stalled and they turned the ball back over to Blue. 3 plays later, Blue made then pay when Eric hit Aaron on a 15 yard corner pass in the endzone putting the up by two scores. 28-14

With Red unable to mount a drive and blue unable to capitalize, the half ended with Red throwing a desperation pass that was picked off by Aaron just as the buzzer went off for halftime.

Red started the second half with Manny at QB.  They quickly drive down the field as Manny hit Macky for 40 yards down the left sideline.  Just a couple of plays later Manny hit rich for a 5 yard td pass bringing red back to within 1 score.  28-21

Blue's next drive was marred with controversy as a tip toed sideline 4th down catch by Aaron was questioned.  Red decided to give in and let Blue have it, but two plays later, Carlos bobbled a pass down the right sideline.  Steve seemed to have tagged him while he was bobbling the pass.  And due to HBL not having a solid rule about this, Blue thought it was a sure fire touchdown.  However, Red thought otherwise, and a new rule was born.  If you are tagged while you are juggling a pass, you are down.  Several plays later, Blues drive stalled 10 yards short of paydirt.

Red started their bid to tie the game back up.  And yet another controversial play unfolded.  Eric seemed to tag Macky just short of the first down marker on a Fourth down play.  After some debate, the first down was given.  Several plays later, Manny hit Macky again for a 10 yard TD and tied the score at 28 up.

Blue struck back quick.  after a short pass to Sebastian for 5 yards, Eric hit Aaron for a 75 bomb down the left side. 35-28

Red began a long drive and just as it looked like they were going to tie the score back up, their drive stalled. With Cesar sacking Manny on the 15 yardline of Blue.

Every once in a while, defense rears up in the HBL and with the score very close,  both teams stepped up to the plate and made the other team work for their scores.  Blue's next two drives ended in interceptions by Macky and Rick.  However, Red was unable to capitalize on either turnover as both drives stalled. 

After the last turnover on downs by Red, Blue finally broke through and scored on a 25 yard juggling catch by Aaron in the endzone.  42-28

With only 5 minutes left in the game, Red quickly moved down the field.  However, with 45 second left, and 10 yards away from bring them to within one score, Manny threw an errant pass that Aaron picked off, sealing the victory.

Cesar scored the first 3 TDs for Blue and Aaron scored the last 3.

There were 9 plays of 25 yards or more

There were 7 series of downs that ended in a turn over on downs.

This was one of the few games that only had a 90 yard field.
