Game #6

Defense Rears it's Ugly Head in Week 6

We all knew it would happen someday, but it always takes you by surprise when it does.  Defense.  It took 25 Minutes to score the first touchdown of the game, and another 34 minutes for the second touchdown.  But it only lasted for a half, as a total of 8 TD's were scored in the second half of the game. Rain over the last two days had made the field very sloppy as well.

Red won the toss and decided to defer.  So Blue started the game with JP Lindo at the helm.  It only lasted 4 plays as they were unable to get anything going and turned the ball over to Red when they couldn't convert a 4th down.

Manny Mendoza took over at QB, and even with a short field, Red was unable to get anything going as well.  And four plays later, Red gave the ball back to Blue because they also could not convert on fourth down.

JP took control and systematically drove Blue down the field.  He worked the field by completing short passes to Richard Friend, Macky Lopez and Cesar "Mufasa" Galang.  However, when tit looked like B;ue would post up the first score of the game, Eric Espejo pulled down the first interception of the game on the 1 yardline.

On the first play, Red pulled a half back option, as Manny handed the ball off to Eric who tossed it to Aaron Goodmiller as he was streaking down the sideline.  Macky reached out and tagged him just as he passed over the midfield mark.  And just a couple of plays later, Cesar grabbed his second INT of the year and his first in this game.

With JP back in at QB, he again strategically move Red down the field.  Quick pass here, short dump off there.  As Duffy would say "Chunks of yards".  Then he hit Rich on a 10 yard corner route for a TD.   7-0

Red got the ball back and seemed to be on a roll as well.  However, after they crossed mid-field, an errant pass was picked off by JP at the 30 yardline.  Unfortunately, the teams would trade a couple more interceptions, and Aaron picked of a pass that bounced off Macky's fingers, and then JP picked off a second one that slipped through Sarah Davies' hands.  Then Manny pulled down his first interception after Blue was able to put a couple plays together.

With 7 minutes left in the game, Manny became calm cool and collected.  A short dump to Eric here.  A running play by Sarah there.  A pass over the middle to Aaron here.  A QB scramble there, as they moved the ball down the field.  Then, after running the clock down to 1 minute left in the half, he hit Eric for a 15 yard TD, tying the game at 7 a piece.

Then on the last play of the half, Cesar showed his arm strength as he hit JP running in stride for a 35 yard pass play.

Red got the ball back to start the second half, but Blue was about to let Red get another score and go up by 7 on them.  Blue's defense only let them get as close as 40 yards from a touchdown before Red turned the ball over on downs.

Though it was only a couple plays later that Manny pulled down his second interception of the game.  Manny, determined to not let this interception go to waste, drove his team down field, finishing the drive off with a 2 yard TD pass to Aaron.  14-7

Blue got the ball back, but was unable to get anything going and turned the ball over on downs.  Manny again drive Red down the field, and capped the drive with a 5 yard QB scramble, putting Red up by 2 touchdowns.

Blue was still unable to get anything going, as they were stopped on the 30 yardline, just short of the first down. Manny, wasting no time, hit Eric on a pass over the middle who ran it in for a 30 yard TD. 28-7

Cesar took over the QB duties for Blue.  Unfortunately, though, he was only able to get to mid-field before he turned the ball over on downs to Red.

On the second play of Red's drive, Manny hit Eric for 30 yards.  And then after a 10 yard run by Sarah, Manny threw a pass to Aaron in the endzone that was initially tipped by Cesar, then caught by Aaron putting Red up 35-7.

With Cesar still calling the plays at QB, he drove Blue down the field.  Picking red apart with short passes to JP, Rich and Macky.  And with 15 minutes left in the game, Cesar hit JP in the endzone for their second score.  35-14.

Red, however, did not let up.  And two plays later, Manny hit Aaron for an 80 yard touchdown.  Putting them back up by 4 touchdowns.

Blue never gave up, and quickly, methodically, they drove right down the field.  10 yards here, 15 yards there.  Then Cesar hit Macky on a 30 yard pass to macky that took them down to the 2 yardline.  And one play later, Cesar hit Rich for a 2 yard touchdown. 42-21.

Red started again at their own 20.  Manny first hit Sarah on a 10 yard pass.  Then two plays later, He hit Aaron coming across the middle.  Aaron kicked up his heals and took off for a 70 yard TD.  49-21.

Blue never wavered though, and with only 4 minutes left in the game, Cesar drove Blue down again.  Though, with just over a minute left, an errant pass to Macky was picked off by Aaron, signaling the end of the game.
