Scoring Galore For Both Teams, But Only One Team Can Come Out A WinnerIt wasn't too cold, it wasn't too windy. The day was just right. With only 9 people showing up, it was only the second time this season that there was a rotator throughout the entire game. Though it wouldn't have been had Aaron Goodmiller not made a deal with the Devil. Still sidelined with a back injury, he was there to get some good footage and record the stats as they occured. The Red Team won the toss but deferred receiving the ball until the second half. And just two plays into the game, it looked like it was a bad decision. On the second play, JP Lindo threw a rainbow pass to Eric Espejo that was tipped and almost intercepted before Eric finally pulled it down and rumbled for 69 yards and the TD. One play later, it looked like it might be a run away game for Blue as Richard Friend intercepted a Manny Mendoza pass and returned it 11 yards to the Red 20 yardline. But the runaway would only last several more plays, as Red mounted an early Goal Line Stance that seemed to turn the game around and got them the ball back on their own 1 yard line. Manny took the helm and was determined not to turn the ball over again. He methodically drove his team down the field with short passes to Jarrod Tackett, Earl Espejo and Alan Mendoza. And ending the the series with a 27 yard pass to Earl who went streaking down the sideline for a touchdown and tying the score at 7. Blue felt determined to back on track. But a couple of plays into their first series of downs, Jarrod picked off one of JP's passes and was off to the races scoring Red's second TD of the game and only the second Interception returned for a touchdown this year. Blue shook it off again, and started to drive, when Jarrod snagged his second interception of the game. Though he didn't return this one for a touchdown, four plays later, Manny hit him for a 27 yard touchdown, putting Red up 3-1. Blue put the past behind them and drove down the field with precision passing by JP. Then just passed midfield, JP hit Sarah Davies on a crossing pattern. She deaked left, then right, then turned on her Track Star speed and scored her first touchdown of the year and pulled Blue to within one score. Red took back over and started to move down the field with Jarrod at Quarterback. Then Blue made a stand and stopped Red in it's tracks on the Blue 32 yard line. However, Blue wasn't able to muster anything up themselves, as they gave the ball right back to Red 4 plays later. With Manny back in command, Red wasted no time. And after a couple of short plays, he hit Jarrod for a 30 yard TD, and put them up by 2 Touchdowns. Blue came back, and started to drive down the field. Though, they were only able to get to their own 40 yard line before the unthinkable happened. Earl stepped in front of a pass intended for Donnie Conty and was off and running, stopping only for the endzone. And for only the second time in HBL history were two Interceptions returned for a touchdown in the same game. And the first time it was done by members of the same team. That put Red up 5-2 with only a couple minutes left in the half. As time ran out for the first half, Blue was only able to get up to the 50 yardline before the clock hit zero. Having deferred receiving the ball to the second half, Red got the ball first and decided not to let up. The drove right down the field, and when it seemed they were going to be stopped, Manny hit Jarrod for a 45 yard touchdown, putting Red up by 4 TDs, just minutes into the second half. But as everybody knows, no lead is safe in the HBL. Blue got the ball back and was determined to pull out a win. With JP calling the shots, Blue marched down the field. He hit on a couple of short passes hear and there, then connected on two successive long plays. One to Donnie for 28 yards, and one for 30 yards to Rich that took them down to the 2 yard line. One play later JP hit Sarah in the endzone making the score 6-3. Jarrod decided he would try his hand at QB again for Red. And seemed to be doing well as Red drove down the field. Then Rich pulled down his second interception of the game, giving Blue the ball and a little momentum. JP took hold of the reins, and quickly drove down the field. Blue scored in just a couple of plays with a 21 yard pass to Eric, bringing them back to within 2 touchdowns. Manny took back control of the ball for Red, and after a couple plays it looked like Blue might get the ball back again. Then Manny hit Jarrod on a Go route for a 69 yard touch down and put red back up by 3 TDs, 7-4. Blue would not falter, and meticulously moved down the field with short passes. Unfortunately, their drive stalled at the Red 15 yardline. Just shy of pulling back to within 2 touchdowns. Red got the ball back, and a rotating Eric took over at QB. However, not throwing all game, he was a little rusty. And four plays later, Blue had the ball back. 1 play after that, JP hit Rich in the endzone for a 20 yard score. 7-5. Manny again got back in at QB and 1 play later, the score was 8-5. Manny hit Jarrod again on a Go route. 1 play after that Earl snagged his interception of the game. Eric and Manny swapped QB duties during the next series of downs. And just seconds after Manny dropped a perfect pass from Eric that was a sure score, Manny hit Eric on the exact same route and Eric took off for a 25 yard score and put Red back up by 4 touchdowns with time running out. Blue was only able to manage a couple of yards in their next series of downs and turned the ball back over to Red. Eric was back in at QB, but it only lasted a couple of plays as JP pulled down an interception and looked to have the 3rd Interception returned for a touchdown when he was caught from behind by none-other than Eric on the 1 yardline. 1 play later, JP finished what he started and scrambled from a blitzing Blue team for a score. and brought the score to 9-6. However, Red never let up, and after only a couple of plays, and only 2 minutes left, Manny hit Earl for a 69 yard score. And with only a couple of second left to play, Blue got off one final play, that turned into one of the longest plays of the day. An 80 yard pass play to Sarah for her third TD of the game, and the year. Ending the game with a 10-7 score and a 3rd straight win for Red.
