Game #1

A Perfect Day For HBL To Begin It's 5th Season, Ends In Overtime.

The day to play football was absolutely perfect.  Not hot, not cold and a slight breeze that helped cool you off when you were running around.  This season started off with a couple of firsts before we even hit the field.  The first being the obvious addition of our own Videographer, Leanne.  She roamed the sidelines like a pro and got some great footage of the game.  The second was a little more subtle.  A wireless mic was hooked up to Rich.  Not only does it give Eric more to work with for the end of the year Video, but it gives a closer look into what actually happens during an average HBL football game. A lot of heavy breathing, burping and singing.

The game started with Red winning the toss and scoring the first two touchdowns of the game.  One on a half back options pass from Steve to Earl for 58 yards.  And the second on an interception by Daniel that he ran into the endzone.  Blue finally scored on a Pass from JP to Rich and tied it up a drive later on a 1 yard pass from JP to Aaron.  Red 14 - Blue14

Manny then scored on a 3 yard rush giving the lead again to Red, and after Donnie grabbed his first sack of the season to get the ball back to Red it looked like  they would get more.  But a couple of plays later Macky pulled down his first interception of the year.  And Blue moved quickly and scored on a 25 yard pass to Aaron. Red 21 - Blue 21

Red and Blue traded scores again, a 57 yard bomb to Alan and a 1 yard pass to Macky just before half time. Red 28 - Blue 28

Blue started the second half with a nice drive and a nicer catch by Macky in the corner of the endzone just out of reach of the outstretched hands of Earl.  And after getting the ball right back from a 4 play and out drive, Blue went up by 14 with another 1 yard pass to Macky. Red 28 - Blue 42

Red came right back and scored on a 5 yard run by Steve.  Defenses stepped it up as Blue had trouble throwing anything but interceptions and Red had trouble getting first downs.  Red finally broke the defensive struggle and scored on a 70 yard TD pass from Steve to Daniel and tied the game back up. Red 42 - Blue 42

Blue drove deep into Red territory with 8 minutes left, but was unable to punch it in.  Red took advantage and on the second play Steve hit Daniel for a 60 yard pass that brought them down to the 1 yard line.  Blue stood tall and stopped Red on each of it's next 4 plays, denying them from scoring.  On the first play, Eric hit JP who was streaking down the sidelines for 79 yards, a TD and the lead with about 3 minutes left in the game. Red 42 - Blue 49

Red then mounted a great quick drive and scored on a 50 yard bomb from Steve to Manny with 30 seconds left.  Tying the game and sending it into over time. Red 49 - Blue 49

Blue won the toss to start with the ball in over time.  They moved right down the field and scored on a 20 yard pass to Earl (Who had switched teams after Sarah had to leave early and Macky went down with an injury).  Red started to move the ball to tie it up when Aaron pulled down an interception.  A couple of plays later, Eric hit Rich for their second TD of the overtime and sealed the win.  And with just a minute left, Rich picked off a pass from Steve, putting the cap on it.
