Game #3

Game 3: The Bodybag Game

The game started ominous enough with the field of choice being changed twice.  After finally being able to secure a field the game was underway an hour later than normal.  Blue won the toss, but decided to defer and let Red start the game with the ball.  And Red made the pay, when on the second play from scrimmage when Manny hit Aaron over the center and he ran for 70 yards and a score.  JP started at QB for Blue and worked his team right down the field ending their first drive with a 10 yard pass to Daniel tying the game at 7.  Red 7 - Blue 7

With Pettyjohn injuring his hamstring during the last drive, Edwin took up rotating duties.  And the scores came fast and furious.  With Manny hitting Aaron again, JP tossing another one to Daniel, JP Running one in for a score and Manny rocketing one to Donnie. The score quickly jumped.  Red 21 - Blue 21.

After each team was unable to punch it in inside the 10 yard line, Manny pulling in an interception and JP getting knocked out of the game when he twisted his ankle, Blue was finally able to put up a score with Manny hitting Cesar for a 2 yard TD.  Blue got the ball right back as Aaron grabbed an interception.  And just a couple of plays later Manny hit Eric for a 40 yard TD.  With 8 minutes left, Steve started a slow drive down the field.  After 7 minutes of dinking and dunking down the field, Steve hit Earl in the endzone to bring Blue within 7 and to end the half.  Red 35 - Blue 28

This is why you defer.  Blue go the ball first in the second half and continued to erase the 14 point deficit they were in.  With Edwin having to sit out the second half due to a hurt leg, Cesar took over rotation duties.  And with a second long drive, Steve hit Cesar for a 12 yard TD and tied the game. Red 35 - Blue 35

The teams then started to trade scores like they were going out of style.  Manny hit Eric for a 5 yard TD.  Cesar hit Daniel for a 20 yard Bomb.  Manny zipped one into Cesar for a 5 yard TD.  Cesar hit Earl for a nice 40 yard streak.  Red 49 - Blue 49.

Red then started a drive and began to dink and dunk it down the field.  With only 20 yards to go to pay dirt, Manny floated a pass to Donnie.  Unfortunately, it floated a little bit too far. Luckily though, it floated right into the hands of Aaron who caught it and ran into the endzone.  A couple of  plays later, Aaron picked off a tipped pass that was intended for Steve.  And Manny made Blue pay right away as he hit Donnie in the endzone for a 10 yard TD pass.  Red 63 - Blue 49

JP Then stepped in at QB, even with the twisted ankle.  Unfortunately, on his first attempt, his pass was intercepted by Eric.  But one play later, JP got the ball right back as he pulled down an interception of his own.  He then worked his team down the field and ended their drive with a TD pass to Earl.  With only 30 seconds left in the game, Eric took the helm and hit Cesar for a 20 yard pass over the middle.  Then on the next play, he reached back and heaved a pass to a streaking Donnie, which was caught by Aaron and run in for the final score of the game.

Amazingly, Eric only took 2 snaps as QB.

Eric: catches a 5 yard TD pass from Manny just inches above the ground - Red 42 - Blue 35

Donnie: His dive in the dirt to tag Steve - Red 49 - Blue 42

Donnie #2: Pulling down an interception in the endzone to stop Blue from tying - Red 49 - Blue 42

Steve: Intercepts a tipped Manny pass in the endzone - Red 49 - Blue 42

Cesar & Earl: Cesar take a half back pitch and throws a 40 yard bomb to earl to tie the game - Red 49 Blue 49

Manny & Donnie: Manny hits Donnie for a TD to put Red up by 2 scores - Red 63 - Blue 49

Eric #2: He pulls down an interception with minutes left in the game and Blue threatening to pull back with in 7 points - Red 63 Blue 49

JP: He intercepts a Cesar pass just after he threw one and returns it to the 10 yard line setting Blue up to bring them back within 1 score - Red 63 - Blue 49
