The Mud Bowl For 2004
Week 10 already and the HBL is just getting started. We are actually at
the real half way point in the season. Including playoffs, the HBL plays 20
games each season and each one looks to be more fun than the next. The teams
were made up of Ric, Rich, Manny, Bagby and Aaron G. on Orange and Nick,
Daniel, Steve, Eric and Cesar on Blue and JP setup as the all time rotator
(Spending the first half on offense and second half on defense). Orange
started with the ball and quickly put points on the board. Just after Manny
hit Rich for an 18 yard pickup, he hit Aaron down the sidelines for a 61
yard touchdown. Blue started off their first drive with Eric in at QB. The
drive was a quick one as Aaron pulled in an errant pass for an interception.
And a few plays later, Manny hit Ric in the endzone for a 3 yard touchdown
pass. After a few plays on Blue’s next drive Manny pulled in Orange’s second
interception of the game. 3 plays later, Manny hit Ric for a 30 yard
touchdown as Orange quickly went up by 3 scores – Orange 21 – Blue 0
Eric calmed Blue down and mounted a precision passing drive that culminated
with a 1 yard td pass to Steve. Blue Defense also stepped it up and in 4
plays they had the ball back as they stopped Orange from even making a
single first down. And just a couple of plays later, Eric threw a strike to
Daniel for their second touchdown in just a couple of minutes. Manny then
drew up a long drive of his own and finished it off with a 3 yard pass to
Bagby in endzone. Orange 28 – Blue 14
Just a few plays into Blue’s next drive, Ric snatched a pass out of the air
for an Interception. And just when it looked like Blue was going to go back
down by 3 scores, Steve pulled in an interception in the endzone. Cesar took
over at QB for Blue and quickly drove right down the field. 31 yards away
from the endzone, Cesar hit Eric across the middle, who jukes out Manny then
Ric and finally outruns Bagby for the touchdown. With just 3 minutes left in
the half, Manny quickly moved Orange right down the field. And on 4th down,
with the clock running out right after he called hike, Manny hit Aaron G. in
the endzone for the touchdown. Orange 35 – Blue 21
The second half started as quick as the first half ended with Cesar deftly
moving the ball right down the field and throwing a strike to Daniel for a
40 yard touchdown. Orange mounted a drive of their own, but it ended 10
yards from the goal line as Blue’s defense stiffened. Blue quickly went
right back and scored on another 40 yard pass play, this time to Eric. And
the comeback was complete. Orange 35 – Blue 35
Orange started their next drive determined to score. Slowly the moved the
ball down the field before Manny opened it up a little with a 20 yard pass
to Aaron for the touchdown. Blue’s next drive unfortunately ended about
mid-field as JP pulled in an Interception on fourth down. Orange then
quickly drove down and scored on a 35 yard pass play to Rich who was
streaking down the sidelines to put Orange back up by 2 scores. Eric then
acquired the QB duties for Blue and in lightning speed drive right down the
field and scored on a 10 yard pass play to Daniel, pulling them back within
7 points. With 9 minutes left in the game, Orange got the ball. Slowly and
methodically they moved down the field. With short passes and several
conversions on fourth down they were able to run out the entire 9 minutes.
Final Score
Orange 49 - Blue 42

Eric “Damn you Donnie, and your damn long armed friend” after Aaron G.
Reached over Eric’s block to tag Steve.
Donnie “There’s Manny, wiping his ball” after Manny dropped the football
in the mud and had to clean it off.
Aaron “KNOCK IT DOWN!” (JP then intercepts the pass) “Or Intercept!”
