The Setup: The Field Is Closed

The day started out kind of rocky for the HBL.  When everybody first showed up, they were greeted with a sign on the field saying that it was closed.  Donnie deftly snatched the sign up and placed it in his car, to be later placed with the other signs that the HBL has procured in the past. 

The game started soon after the teams were selected..  Blue started with Bagby, Edwin, Steve, Rich and Eric.  Orange, with Ric, Nick, JP, Donnie and Manny.  Cesar was last to the field so he was the designated rotator.  Blue started out with the ball and Eric at QB, but it only lasted for a few plays when JP pulled down an interception. With Manny running the offense for Orange, they quickly moved right down the field and scored on a 5 yard pass to Nick.  Blue then drove just passed midfield, when Nick pulled in Orange's second INT of the game.  And 1 play later, Manny hit Ric for a 55 yard TD.  Blue Settled down and quickly drove down the field, and in 3 plays they scored on a 5 yard td pass to Rich.  Oranged looked to keep it's lead at 14 points by going down and scoring, but Edwin put a stop to that with Blue's first Interception of the game.  Orange 14 - Blue 7

One play later, Eric hit Bagby for a 30 yard touchdown and tied the game back up. Manny calmed his team down and worked the ball downfield with a good drive, finishing it off with a 25 yard TD pass to JP.  Blue drove right back down the field and capped their drive with a 5 yard TD pass to Cesar in the corner of the endzone.  Manny then rallied his troops and engineered a very long drive in which not a single pass was dropped.  It ended with a 3 yard TD pass to Nick.  With just 5 minutes left in the half, Blue worked its way down the field.  And after two weird lateral plays in which one play was actually called back, Eric hit Cesar in the endzone as time expired.- Orange 28 - Blue 28

The second half began with Orange taking the ball right down the field, ending it with Manny rushing for the touchdown.  Eric then took Blue right back down the field and in just a couple of plays, he found Rich running down the sidelines uncovered.  He hit him for the 30 yard touchdown.  Orange slowed the game down a little and mounted a nice drive ending it with a 3 yard touchdown to JP, who caught it just before he ran out of bounds.  Eric quickly took blue right back down the field, hitting every open receiver in site. Cesar was wide open in the endzone for another 5 yard touchdown for Blue.  Orange 42 - Blue 42

Manny kept his cool and moved right back down the field, scoring on a 13 yard TD pass to Ric.  Eric didn't back down and quickly moved right back down the field, finding Steve in the endzone for a 12 yard TD pass.  Orange was able to move the ball back to mid-field, but they couldn't get it any further, turning the ball over on Downs.  And just a couple plays later, Blue took the lead when they scored on a 20 yard pass from Eric to a wide open Steve. Orange 49 - Blue 56

The rest of the game was pretty much a blur as there was a flurry of scoring by both teams.  With Blue having the ball in the final minutes, Eric mounted what has become know as "The Drive" as he methodically drove Blue down the field with precision passing and making key plays at key moments.  The drive and game ended with Eric hitting Rich in the endzone for the game winning touchdown.
